Henry Normal, co-writer of Mrs Merton, The Royle Family and much of Steve Coogan’s early work; executive producer of Gavin and Stacey, Nighty Night, Uncle and The Mighty Boosh, has returned to his first love, poetry – inspired by his autistic son, Johnny.

Johnny is the subject of a series of shows Normal has written and performed on BBC Radio 4, and A Normal Life – the book he co-authored with his wife, screenwriter Angela Pell – a frank, funny and deeply affecting account of the difficulties and the privilege of living with someone with special needs.
