At The Limes, we ensure that our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. With that principle in mind, we are keen to recruit a Zest Kitchen Coordinator who shares our vision. Responsibilities include: Teaching young people with disabilities cooking, baking and barista skills.  You will support young people to serve food and drinks at our toddler groups and Sunday markets, teaching them customer service, marketing and budgeting skills. You will encourage young people to share and develop entrepreneurial ideas through cooking, baking and outings.

Job Title: Zest Kitchen Coordinator

Location: The Limes Community & Children’s Centre William Morris Hall, 6 Somers Road, Walthamstow, London, E17 6RX

Responsible to: Creative Journeys Enterprise Manager

Rate of Pay:  £24,050 pa pro rata

Hours of work: 17 hours per week, 2 x 8hr day per week and 1 x Sunday Market per month

Job Purpose

To support young people with learning disabilities to transition into adulthood as socially active citizens using entrepreneurial and creative-based methods of working, such as cooking & baking.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities


To ensure members have the information, training, support and resources they need to make the most of their time on placement

To manage and develop partnership, referral and signposting pathways

To support, plan and help members manage their time at market days and during other selling opportunities such as Tanz Toddlers

To create seasonal plans and support members to think seasonally about produce and market days

Management & administration

To manage all support workers and volunteers on placements within this project

To contribute to development of policy to ensure best practice

To place and support 25 disabled YP per year


To research, promote and develop creative activities & placements with consideration to members’ support needs and wishes as outlined in the Journey Plan

To research transport issues and to promote independent travel for our members

To ensure that all members who may be in need of assistance can be referred to appropriate agencies for any further advice and support

To develop members’ participation in the running of the project in association with the CJ Enterprise Manager

To keep abreast of current development in the field of social inclusion including policy at a national level

Create high quality, seasonal products to sell to the public on market days and other selling opportunities

Co-operation, Liaison and Publicity

To provide information about the Zest Kitchen project’s opportunities in an accessible format

To promote the importance of being socially active citizens within the Limes and with our partners in the community.

To attend staff team meetings or external organisations meetings when required by CJ Enterprise Manager or The CEO

To provide written & verbal reports for management meetings

To promote the project to people with learning disabilities in the community in conjunction with the CJ Enterprise Manager

To work with the Edible Forest Garden and Make & Create coordinators to ensure meaningful links between the projects


To ensure positive links between members, their supporters and volunteers

To support young adults with learning disabilities to sustain professional relationships

To develop creative skills opportunities within Zest Kitchen

To ensure the support provided to young people with learning disabilities is of the highest standard and fully takes into account their needs and wishes.

To operate within all Limes policies including Confidentiality and Equal Opportunities

To undertake training as required by the CJ Enterprise Manager

To undertake other duties as required by the CJ Enterprise Manager within the competence of the post holder and commensurate with their grading

To keep up to date with The Limes’ policy for safeguarding for vulnerable adults.
