The Limes Covid19 Statement, Limes Services suspended.

Covid19 Statement from The Limes Community & Children’s Centre, 19/03/20

The aim of The Limes, has always been to provide a safe space for the children & young people of Waltham Forest, many of whom have complex needs. We understand how important our services are in supporting the families of all those who attend and have made every effort to remain open, so that support can continue.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 crisis is escalating quickly and we now feel that to fulfil our promise to keep your children and young people safe, we must suspend the majority of our services with immediate effect.

We have not taken this decision lightly and all of our staff are acutely aware that this will cause anxiety for many of you. We are working hard on finding other ways that we can continue to offer you support and will share this information with you in the coming days.

The following services are now suspended:

Play! Schools sessions – various

The Club – Monday/Tuesday/Thursday

Friends Empowered Service

We are aiming to carry on with Friends Empowered. This a one-to-one tailored programme for 18-25 year olds which we hope we can, for now, continue to provide. We will share confirmation of how this will work as soon as possible.

Buddy and Befriending Service –  LBWF Short Breaks statutory provision up to age 17

We are working to develop an offer for children on a one-to-one basis.

We will only able to make this offer on an individual basis, as it is completely dependent on our staff feeling willing and able to provide this, in such unprecedented circumstances.

As we will operate with a skeleton staff, we ask that you only call us between 11am to 3pm. A manager will talk you through the service offer and advise on how we might be able to assist you.

Hiring our venue for parties and meetings

To supplement the charity’s income, we hire out our hall and coach house for parties, events and meetings. This is a vital revenue stream for the charity, as it helps us to provide a safe, clean and accessible building, purchase the specialist equipment, toys and activities, as well as provide much-needed trips out for disabled children & young people. In line with Government advice on social distancing, we have cancelled all reservations and we will not be accepting any new bookings until further notice. This loss of income will unavoidably impact our provision, going forward. These are financially difficult times for so many – if you are able to make a donation, however small, that would be wonderful and go a long way towards ensuring we can continue to help your children & young people to flourish but we fully understand that that you may not be in a position to do so.

The Limes is a vital part of the community and without you, the people of Waltham forest, we would not be able to play such an important and supportive role in the lives of so many children, young people and their families.

Throughout this crisis we will be reaching out to our local residents, especially to those who are vulnerable and isolated.  If you live locally, we would encourage you to let us know how we might be able to help you. If you are in a less difficult situation than we hope that you will be able to help us.

We thrive when you thrive  –  together we are stronger.
